Thuringia and Saxony are home to a few very nice sites that I have so far found. In Eisenach Wartburg boasts hosting Martin Luther as a resident and his room is the focus of one of the finer castles in this area. There are some very fine looking castles in these states, not many of which I have had the opportunity to visit. Those I have visited were, at the time, sadly neglected and on the edge of following so many others into crumbling heaps of history lost. But then the wall came down and all the years of neglect began to vanish as each building began the time consuming and expensive task of restoration. I look forward to returning to take pleasure in the progress being made. |
